The Greyface Dartmoor is also known as the Dartmoor or “Improved” Dartmoor. This previously rare breed of sheep, has grown significantly in numbers over recent years & that success has lead to it no longer appearing on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust watchlist.
Descended from the local breeds which grazed the low ground in and around Dartmoor, they are a slow maturing breed taking some 3 years to reach maturity.
Attractive, quiet and easily handled the Dartmoor sheep now have their enthusiasts throughout the country and provide a natural focal point whenever they appear.
The Greyface Dartmoor produces a heavy, versatile fleece well suited for use in rugs & other hard wearing woollen products. Traditionally the long, curly, lustre wool was used to make carpets, blankets & cloth.
